If you’re new to homeschooling or even if you’ve been homeschooling for awhile, it is SO EASY to get caught up in the comparison trap and doubt yourself.
What if this isn’t the right curriculum to use?
Is my child really learning enough?
How do I know this is what they should learn about right now?
What if that other curriculum is a better choice?
Is it okay to do it this way? What if another way is better?
I know I’ve been there – and probably every other homeschool mom has too.
But here’s a secret: even public school teachers feel this way when they first start teaching.
Just because you have some feelings of doubt or second guess yourself, it doesn’t mean that you’re not doing it right or not doing it well.
These are totally normal and realistic feelings!
So how do we gain confidence in ourselves as home educators?
We just DO IT.
Okay, maybe that sounds a little too simple, but it’s the reality. The more you get into homeschooling, the more you’ll find your groove. You’ll become more comfortable making decisions and confident in them.
The only way to gain confidence is through experience! You can be prepared through reading, talking to other homeschool moms, planning out your curriculum, etc. But you won’t truly feel confident until you DO IT.
As your year goes, you’ll either feel more confident in your curriculum – or you’ll feel more confident in your decision to ditch it. Year after year, you will become more confident in your methods, your choices, and your plans to move forward.
You will occasionally doubt yourself, and that’s normal. You’ll have times that you’ll change course, and that’s good. But with each decision, you’ll gain more and more confidence and courage to continue!
So if you aren’t feeling confident yet – that’s okay. It will come with time and experience. Keep going!
