Garlic is an amazing and underrated tool for your wellness. It is naturally anti- bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory. Whenever my family is under the weather, we eat a lot of garlic (preferably raw for those of us who can handle it). Like we want to smell like an Italian restaurant we’ve had so much garlic. ;)
Making a garlic salve to rub on your child’s chest is a powerhouse natural remedy for kicking whatever respiratory illness your child may have, and it’s so simple to make.

Garlic Salve Recipe
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 8 large cloves garlic – crushed and peeled
- optional: 5-10 drops R.C. or Raven essential oil for respiratory benefits or Lavender for calming
In a blender or food processor, combine coconut oil (partially melted is best) and garlic. Blend until completely smooth. Pour into a small jar and cover. Store in the fridge (especially in warm weather) or in a cool cabinet (good in the winter).
The salve will harden when cold, but just scoop it out with a spoon or your fingers, and it will melt as you apply it.
Rub onto chest three times a day or as needed for respiratory support.
Other ways you can use garlic to boost your immune system:
- adding raw garlic to soups or meals
- adding minced raw garlic to a spoonful of honey
- garlic fermented in honey
