Praying over your kids is incredibly powerful – and it doesn’t have to be complicated! You can don’t have to pray for your kids in a specific way, but sometimes you aren’t sure what to pray. But we have words to pray right in front of us – in the Scriptures! The Word of God is living and active, and praying these words – out loud over your kids and when you are alone – will transform your lives.

Put your child’s name into the Bible verse and say it out loud as a prayer for them.

For example you could use Psalm 19:14:

“May the words of (Matthew’s) mouth and the meditation of (Matthew’s) heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Put the Scripture in your own words and apply it to your child.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Try praying something like “Father, thank you for directing (Tommy’s) path. I pray that he will put his full trust in you, and give more weight to your ways than his own understanding. Direct his thoughts to you when he isn’t sure what to do in tough situations.”

List the attributes of the Scripture verse and pray them for your child.

Here’s an example using Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

Lord, I pray that (Jennifer) would think about things that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and worthy of praise.

The book To Light Their Way is a great resource for praying over your kids, especially if this is new for you or you aren’t sure what to pray beyond the Scripture.

Praying Scripture over your kids probably won’t happen if you aren’t in the Word yourself. This exclusive CYH video will help you get into the Word more regularly, in the midst of your busy mom life:
