The other day I felt the Lord ask me this question.
Are you cultivating the soil where your kids are planted?
And to be honest, it made me pause.
I didn’t feel like it was a rebuke, but a reminder. A reminder to make sure that my priorities are in the right place. To make sure that my heart is set on the Lord. To make sure that my days are spend pouring into my family.
So here’s what I’m asking myself:
- Where am I ordering my affections?
- Am I capturing my kids’ hearts along with their minds?
- Am I regularly praying for and over my kids?
- Is there anything distracting me – or my kids – from the most important things?
I feel these days with my kids as so fleeting. The older they get, the more my heart aches for these days to move slowly, and to pull them closer.
When I consider if I’m cultivating the soil of our home, the soil of my kids’ hearts… it helps me to slow down and capture this time with them. It helps me to put aside the things that don’t matter as much as my kids. It helps me to be a better mom.
So what about you… are you cultivating the soil where your kids are planted?
