CYH: Build the Foundation

Our job as mothers is to build the foundation.

And when we are followers of Jesus, the foundation isn’t just built on good books and good homemaking skills

Those things are wonderful and valuable, but we must root our kids in the Truth if we want them to be able to stand in a world that wants to knock them down.

The world will not teach us how to build the right foundation for our kids.

It starts at home.

We need to surround ourselves with people that will encourage us and point us back to Jesus. We need to surround ourselves with people who will help us plant our kids by the stream of living water when everything else tries to drive them away.

Imagine you’re building a house, brick by brick. The foundation needs to hold up the rest of the house. Each of those bricks represents the big things – your family’s priorities, values, and faith.

You want to cement those bricks in – make them solid. You want the foundation to be strong and unwavering. You want your kids to be able to stand on that foundation – no matter what comes their way in the future. Even if they start tearing down the rest of the house, you want that foundation to stand.

So each day we build. We pray, lay the bricks, spread the mortar, and trust that the Lord has given us what we need to build a solid foundation.

But remember, each day is just one day that we get to pour into our kids and build that foundation. And no foundation is built in one day.

So when we make mistakes, get frustrated, have a bad day, see our kids make poor choices… we remember that it’s just one day. It’s not the only day that we have to build that foundation.
