Make Money as a Stay at Home Mom

It doesn’t take an economic expert to notice that everything is so expensive these days. And if you’re a stay at home mom (or want to be), living off one income might be getting harder to do! And if you’re trying to leave your full-time job so that you can start homeschooling, bringing in an income might be a really important part of that equation. Whether you need to make a full-time income or you just want to bring in a few extra hundred dollars, you can make money as a stay at home mom.

make money as a stay at home mom

I’ve been a stay at home mom for almost 17 years now. I left my full time teaching job to be home with my babies full time, and my husband has worked hard to provide an income that allowed me to do this. But we had many years that were very tight, and early on I started bringing in money in little ways to help give our budget a little wiggle room.

Even before I knew I wanted to homeschool, I knew that I didn’t want to leave my kids in order to work a full-time job elsewhere. And I knew that being present in my home and keeping my family as the first priority was more important to me than being able to afford expensive clothes or eating our at restaurants.

How can you make money as a stay at home mom?

I want to give a quick disclaimer: if you don’t want to make money from home, I still believe it’s 100% possible to live off one income. If you’re frugal, live on a budget, and intentionally save money in other ways, you can do it! Your worth is NOT tied to your ability to make money.

But if you want or need extra income, there are so many things that you can do!

15 Ways to Make Money as a Homeschooling Mom

Monetize your skills

Can you bake sourdough bread to sell? Do you grow flowers that you can sell in a roadside stand? Do you know how to thrift incredible items that you can resell? Do you know how to sew or crochet something that you can sell at a craft fair?

Take something you’re really good at and turn it into a money maker. The ordinary things that you do in your everyday life could bring in some extra income here and there.

You don’t need to start a full-time business, especially if you’re just looking for a little extra grocery money. A little side hustle can bring in enough to give you some wiggle room in your budget!

Babysit

There are always people who need help with childcare. This doesn’t have to be full time either! Maybe you watch a neighbor’s child after school or a friend’s toddler twice a week. I did this when my oldest was a toddler, and it was a big blessing for us! If you have the energy and capacity to watch another child or two, it can be an easy way to make money.

Sell someone else’s products

I know that network marketing gets a bad rep, but for the last 20 years, I’ve always had my toe dipped in at least one network marketing company. And they’ve blessed my family in many ways, especially financially!

But if you aren’t a fan of network marketing, you could try affiliate marketing. You could sign up with a company whose products you already use and love (like mine!) and earn commissions by referring friends.

Create your own job

There has never been a better time to be an entrepreneur! Whether you want to make your own digital products like I do, provide a service for someone, or bring in a full-time income from your homestead, there are endless opportunities to start your own business.

And you don’t need to fall prey to the boss mom hustle culture to do it.

In starting my own online business and building my social media accounts, I’ve been able to bring in a full-time income with very part time hours – all while homeschooling my kids and having my family as my first priority!

But it can be confusing to know where to begin.

How do you choose what to do to earn an income? What kind of business should you start? How do you grow a social media account so people find your products? Do you need an email list? How do you really keep family as the priority??
