This is because we all have the school system mindset ingrained in almost all of us. Our culture is built around the system, and it has how we think about education, success, careers, and even our schedules.
Homeschool is so much more about HOME
than it is about SCHOOL.
Our homes are where we build relationships, grow character, and develop a love of learning. When we shift the focus to HOME, not school, it changes the dynamic of your child’s education. It centers it around family, the life you live together, and the connections you have – instead of around the curriculum you use or the academic standards you need to meet.
But it isn’t always easy for us to shift our mindset. This process of unlearning the system mindset can take time and it takes a little bit of work. But when we do it, it can change the entire trajectory of our kids’ education.
Is your goal to raise kids who get good grades, know how to pass the test, and can check the boxes? Or is your goal to raise kids who can navigate relationships, have strong character, persevere through challenges, and have the tools they need to pursue their passions and interests – academic and otherwise?
The problem is that the system just isn’t designed for your actual life. And when we bring that system into our homeschool, it leaves us fighting against it. Because we don’t need it in our homeschools.
When we shift our focus away from curriculum as the center of our home education, we make space for our kids to pursue learning in all areas of their life. Not just the ones that are in textbooks.
We get to make HOME the center of our kids’ education.
