We are surrounded by systems that we are expected to participate in – the education system, the food system, the corporate workforce, the medical system, etc. We are so used to these systems that we have become dependent on them, and we let them dictate what we do in our everyday lives and the choices we make. But what if we choose to step out of the system?
What if we choose to forge our own way, go off the beaten path, and say NO to mainstream ideas and expectations?
What if we choose to be independent rather than dependent? Producers rather than consumers?
The price of anything is the amount of life you’re willing to exchange for it.Henry David Thoreau
It’s not always easy to say no to the pressure and expectations of the systems our modern world has put in place. But when we do, it can bring freedom, peace, and a self-sustainability that can’t be found within it.
Over the last 15 years, my family of seven has slowly made changes in our lives to say NO to the system. Maybe you’re feeling this call too. The pull to a simpler life, one that sheds the pressure of modern day expectations and embraces the slow pace of days out of the mainstream. A life that isn’t dependent on any system.
