The world around us is constantly pushing kids to achieve, succeed, work harder, and meet educational benchmarks at younger ages. Schools – and even homeschools – are prioritizing bookwork and checklists above play and creative exploration.

But the reality is that kids need play. They can’t learn without it, and it’s critical for their development – of their minds and their bodies.

Play is not an extra.

And not just at a young age. Kids need play at all ages. It changes form and looks differently as our kids get older, but we can’t continue to let our kids grow up believing that play is an extra.

It’s not something that we tack on after their learning is complete. It’s an essential and well researched part of learning. But in the world we live in, we need to fight for a childhood that is centered around play.
