The Lost Words: K-12 nature study

$14.00

Description

Over the last twenty years, the Oxford Junior Dictionary (which is geared toward seven-year-olds) has been removing nature words and replacing them with words related to technology. Words like acorn, violet, dandelion, and heron were removed to make way for words like blog, MP3 player, bullet-point, celebrity, and chatroom.

The words we use reflect our values – and if we want to raise kids who are addicted to screens, that’s the way to do it: teach them that nature is less important than technology, by taking away the words to describe and learn about it.

This K-12 literature-based nature study will immerse your kids in these lost words, so our families can keep these words alive. Within this family-style study, you’ll learn about these nature words and the habitats/ecosystems where you’ll find them.

You’ll learn about each habitat and the nature words through:

  • extensive book lists (for elementary, middle, and high schoolers)
  • art and nature journaling
  • hands-on activities
  • creative writing prompts
  • poetry
  • supplemental video links
  • and deeper study/research for middle and high schoolers

There is NOTHING you’re required to print for this study – no worksheets! You can print the optional watercolor wildlife cards to add depth and beauty to your study, but these aren’t required.

This is a digital PDF download. You will not receive a physical product.
