The Winter Olympics Unit Study is a family style literature-based unit study of the Summer Games. It is designed for all ages K-12, so you can do this with your whole family together!

This unit study covers topics like:

• sports and events in the Olympics

• the politics surrounding the Olympics

There are plenty of opportunities for a deep dive into topics of interest, and many lessons include discussion questions and extension activities to guide these deeper dives and to allow older students to learn more about the Winter Games and the Olympians.

In this unit study, you find 64 pages with extensive book lists, journaling prompts, activities, links to videos, and additional articles for older students. Each lesson gives you books to read as a family, additional reads for younger and older students, topics to discuss, journal prompts, and extensions for the lessons – including high schoolers. These prompts are meant to promote critical thinking, give creative writing opportunities, improve understanding about the topic, invite deeper discussion, and more!

An extensive book list is included (for all ages), so you can choose the books that are best for your family. But this unit could be completed with other comparable books on the Olympics.  You’ll also find a list of books specifically for your high school students, as well as additional videos for them to watch and articles to read. No special supplies are needed for this unit study.

All lessons are designed to be slightly open-ended to allow for child-led learning and exploration. You can modify and adapt for your students’ ability levels easily within this family style unit. The lessons integrate multiple subjects like history, art, physical education, geography, and language arts.
